John R Grof

John R. Grof, 58, of Tecumseh, passed away at the BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. 

   John Raymond Grof was born on December 2, 1956 to Joseph T. and Mary D. (Wenzl) Grof in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh.  John attended St. Andrew Parochial School through the sixth grade and Tecumseh Public Schools. John started working construction and later worked for Boardman Refuse. John really enjoyed working on cars and also with developmentally challenged residents while he worked for the Beatrice State Developmental Center. His last employment was at MBA Poultry in Tecumseh.

   John was an excellent dad and grandpa. He loved telling his grandkids stories, hanging out at the park and lake and later taking them to Dale's to buy them pop and candy.  John enjoyed sitting in front of Fifth Street Mix and being Dale Hippen’s “Greeter”.  He put a smile on everyone’s face that came in.  John had many friends and always looked forward to his Sunday Yahtzee game with Don.    

   He was married to Mary Light and they had a son Jason Grof.  He married Deb Tallant and they later divorced.  John later lived with Cathy Colson.  They had a daughter Stephanie Grof.  John was the type of person who always thought of others and would give them “the shoes that he should be wearing."  His final gift was organ donation at the time of his death to others in need.

   John is survived by his son, Jason Grof and wife Kara and their two daughters, Brylee and Bella, daughter, Stephanie Grof and fiance’ Shaun, and children, Cassidy, Preston, Mark and Ethan, brothers, Joseph Grof and wife Billie of Cortland, Mike Grof and wife Bea of LeCenter, MN and Jim Grof and wife Sam of Tecumseh, sisters, Mary Meints and husband Lance of Tecumseh and Lois McClintock and husband Dennis of Tecumseh, sister-in-law, Shari Grof of Tecumseh, aunts, Rose Grof and Fran Schmidt both of Tecumseh and nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dave Grof and niece Andie Lea Grof.

  Celebration of life services will be held at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, October 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with Father Craig Clinch officiating.  Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 4-8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. and Monday, 9:00 a.m. to the time of the service.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  Memorials may go to the family's choice. Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
