 Harvey Laflin was born to Grant and Nancy (Carel) Laflin on August 22, 1940 in Beatrice, Nebraska.  He grew up and attended several rural Johnson County and Gage County, completing eighth grade from rural elementary school #148.   He later attended Filley High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Army from November 14, 1959 to his honorary discharge on May 13, 1960. 

  Harvey was united in marriage to Ilene Hohn on October 19, 1961 in Marysville, Kansas.  He later married Marjorie Oestmann on June 25, 1977 in Beatrice, Nebraska.

Over the years, Harvey worked as a farm hand and truck driver for several farms.  When he was asked Harvey was always willing to help others and enjoyed being a friend and doing for others.  He loved cats, especially long haired Siamese, even to the extent that he had Marjorie make pancakes for them.  He enjoyed stock car races, helped to work on race cars, polka music and country music, mowing yards with his riding mower and pushing snow with lawn tractor.  Harvey especially enjoyed being outdoors, weekend visits with his brother in Missouri, going to polka dances, Sunday drives and hunting with his brothers. 

  He passed away at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 26 days after a prolonged illness.  

Harvey is survived by his wife, Marjorie Laflin of Crab Orchard, children, Clayton Laflin and fiancée Joy of Beatrice, Anita Larimore of Plymouth, Ailisia Colleen Watts of Beatrice, Terry Laflin of Beatrice, and Reggie Laflin of Beatrice, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, step-children, Rita Schuster and husband Wayne of Beatrice, Dennis Binnick of Beatrice, Scott Binnick of Lincoln, Matthew Taylor and wife Lindy of Beatrice and Michelle Sewell and husband Keith of Lincoln, siblings, Helen McKenzie and husband Clyde of Avoca, Shirley Higgins and special friend John Lambert of Crab Orchard, Hugh Laflin of Eldorado, KS, Diane Richardson and husband Jim of Adams, Norma Rogman and husband Wayne of Cheney, Jim Laflin and wife Judy of Rockport, MO and Deborah Belding and husband Michael of Beatrice and many nieces and nephews.

  Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Linda, brother, Duane Carel, son-in-law, Frank Larimore, sister-in-law, Ilene Carel and friend and brother-in-law, Paul Higgins.   

   Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, October 21, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.   Memorials may go to the family’s choice.   Interment will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery, rural Crab Orchard, Nebraska.   Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
