Genevieve Mae (Ulmer) Young

 Genevieve Mae (Ulmer) Young, 94, of Humboldt, Nebraska was daughter of Nelson H. and Cecelia (Smith) Ulmer was born February 8, 1922, at the farm home north of Dawson. She attended Dawson Public School.  Following graduation in 1940 she was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of the Dawson School for two years.  In May 1942 she went to Washington, D.C. as clerk typist employed with the Casualty Department of the Army, Adjutant Generals Office.  After five years, she left the Government Service as Statistical Draftsman. 

On September 13, 1946, Genevieve married Herbert Lee Young at his parent’s home in Washington, D. C.  They lived in the Congress Heights area where their three sons were born.  In September 1958 they moved to Temple Hills Maryland.  After Herbert retired December 31, 1973, they moved to Humboldt, Nebraska in August 1974.  They were married almost 54 years when Herbert died in 2000.  In April 2006, Genevieve moved into Colonial Acres Nursing Home.

A year after moving to Humboldt, she became a member of the Berean Church and later the Auburn Berean Church and the Auburn Evangelical Free Church.  Genevieve was most recently a member of the Falls City Baptist Church.  She had been a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, VFW Auxiliary, and AARP as well as the Dawson Goldenrod Club, Busy Hour Club, Nebraska City Heritage Needlework Guild, the National Quilting Association and a charter member of the Nebraska State Quilt Guild. The Pennsylvania Colony was very important to her. Genevieve enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing, quilting, and bingo.  

Genevieve passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the age of ninety-four years, eight months, and seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herbert, eldest son Ray in 2005, and an infant sister.  

Genevieve is survived by her sons: Charles E. (Chuck) and Debbi Young of Pasadena, CA; Wayne C. and Dee Young of Paola, KS; grandchildren: Darlene and LB Chandler of Ventura, CA; Crystal and Brett Hammans of Oxnard, CA; Barrett Young of  Paola, KS; great-grandchildren include LJ and Zeke Chandler and Baby Hammas, a sister Dolores (Dee) and Ted Chapman of Arcadia, CA; daughter-in-law Nancy Goudie of San Francisco, CA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Ron Russell officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Interment will be at the Heim Cemetery in Dawson, Nebraska.
