Gene F. Schoemann

Gene F. Schoemann, 74, of Nebraska City, passed away August 23, 2015.  He was born to LeRoy and Kathryn (Gordon) Schoemann on April 19, 1941.

  He graduated from Wheaton Community High School.  After graduation Gene attended college and received his bachelor’s degree in education.  Gene went to the seminary for a time to study to become a priest.  He taught high school classes in Chicago.

   He later moved to Nebraska and taught math and coached at Conestoga High School for a number of years.  He retired from teaching and started working at Walmart in Nebraska City.  Gene worked for Walmart about six years. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed collecting coins and baseball cards and attending flea markets and estate sales.  He loved to travel and would often take some of his students on sightseeing trips.

     Gene passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2015 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 4 days.

   Gene is survived by his brother, Jerry Schoemann and wife Ginger of Austin, TX, sister, MaryKae Brewer and husband Alan of Omaha, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Kathryn Schoemann.  

    Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, with Father Michael McCabe officiating.   There will be no visitation; viewing will be at the cemetery prior to the graveside service.     Interment will be in the Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City, Nebraska.     Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.  Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.
