Elton Evan Davis

Elton E. Davis, 95 of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Premier Estates in Pawnee City, Nebraska, at the age of 95.. He was born on August 27, 1922 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Melvin and Olive “Ollie” (Miner) Davis.

After graduating from high school, he was employed by Holly Hatchery in Pawnee City and was in the Triple C’s prior to being drafted in to the Army in 1942.  He served overseas in the European Campaign during WWII.  He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946.

After returning from the service he worked on a ranch in Wyoming. Elt then returned to work for Adam’s Ranch in Odebolt, IA. Adam Ranch moved to Kilgore, NE, where he worked until moving back to Pawnee City. Elt opened a Machine Shop behind H&H Auto Parts.

On September 22, 1984, he married Anna Mae Rhodes.  The following March they moved to Grover, Colorado to work on Basher Ranch.  In 1986 they returned to Pawnee City where Elt worked as a Sexton for Pawnee City Cemetery.  For several years Elt worked maintenance at the Pawnee Village, until he retired from there after a 6 way bypass at the age of 90.  

Elt loved working with wood.  He spent any free time he had making keepsakes for his family.

He loved his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews dearly.

Elt was a member of the Methodist Church and VFW Post 5289.

Elt was preceded in death by his parents; Melvin and Ollie, brothers; Clarence, Dean, Wayne, sisters; Berniece, and Grace, brothers-in-law; Earl, Les, John and sister-in-law, Marie.

He is survived by his wife Anna Mae Davis of Pawnee City, Nebraska, children, Jeff and Dineen Rhodes of Chappell, NE, Kim and Dan Harris of Pawnee City, NE, Randy Rhodes and special Friend Cyndee Elrod of  Mosses Lake, WA, Scott Rhodes of Emmett, ID, Deb and Mike Wilcox of Pawnee City, NE, grandchildren, Garrett Harris, Danielle Eisenbarth, Chad Meyer, Ethan Wilcox, Levi Wilcox, Shelby Wilcox, Lilly Rhodes, Jannelle Rhodes, Delton Rhodes, Rena Rhodes, 12 great grandchildren, brothers, Keith Davis, Larry Davis, Willis Davis, Marvin Davis, sisters, Alice Davis, Lola Hatfield and Betty Veeder, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Celebration of Life, 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Salem U.C.C. Church, Steinauer, Nebraska.  Officiating Pastor Eric Biehl.  Visitation on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Inurnment at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Memorials in lieu of flowers. Full Military Rites provided by the  Nebraska National Army Guard and the Pawnee City VFW Post 5289. Condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.
