Elaine McLaughlin

   Elaine McLaughlin was born to Daniel and Helen (Davey) McLaughlin on March 3, 1930 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  She grew up in Tecumseh and Washington D. C.  She was very close to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandparents.  Elaine attended St. Anne's Parochial School in Washington D.C. and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1948.   In 1972, Elaine graduated from UNL with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. 

  Elaine spent 20 years working for the Johnson County Judge, Bill Schepman and during this time issued many marriage licenses.  After receiving her education degree, Elaine taught second grade at Wasmer Elementary School in Grand Island for about 20 years.  During this time, Elaine also received her Master’s Degree.

  She was a lifetime member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church.  She had many hobbies and interests.  Her uncle John Davey was her mentor in the area of stocks and law and she studied them intensely.  Elaine loved reading and learning about her investments.  She enjoyed mowing on her John Deere mower as well as planting and harvesting her large gardens (not weeding them.)  Elaine loved wandering her grandparent's farm, listening to and watching for birds and quaffing “drinking heartily” her coffee on her front porch.  Elaine especially loved dogs and had many of them as pets. She had a great sense of humor and will be remembered  for her one-liners and original  phrases.  Elaine’s greatest joy in life though was sitting down and catching up with friends and family or serving them a large meal. 

  Elaine passed away on May 25, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87 years.

  She is survived by her brother, John and sister-in-law, Beverly McLaughlin of Lincoln, nephews, Sean McLaughlin and wife Jaclyn and daughter Kaitlyn of Albuquerque, NM, Patrick McLaughlin and wife Becky and their sons, Declan, Quinton, and Everett of Ballwin, MO, and Daniel McLaughlin of Lincoln, niece, Helen McLaughlin of Lincoln, her cat, Ralph and many well-loved and beloved cousins and friends. 

   Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Helen McLaughlin and many more special family members and friends. 

   Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Craig Clinch officiating.

   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Rosary will be recited at the St. Andrew Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m.

  Memorials may be given to the Capital Humane Society, Lincoln, Nebraska.

  Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
