After graduation, Eileene worked at the Ben Franklin store in Humboldt. Eileene moved to Waukegan, Illinois where she worked at Abbott Laboratories during World War II.  At that time, Abbott Laboratories, at the request of the U.S. government, was increasing the production of penicillin for wartime use.

Three children were born into their family between October 1947 and March 1965; LeAnn, Kyle Dean, and Lori Sue.  The family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1966 and later to Grandville, Michigan where Eileene worked at Harlo as a welder.  The workers were unionized and were often on strike during her time there.  In 1974, Eileene moved back to Humboldt and worked at the Flying L Horse Trailer Company in Falls City as a welder.  Robert (Bob) farmed north of Humboldt on the family farm.  When the Leech's Clothing Store opened in Humboldt, Eileene worked as a store clerk until her retirement.  Eileene had a great sense of humor and loved gardening, reading, playing Pinochle and watching sports.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Nebraska and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1974.  Eileene passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2016, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of ninety-four years, six months, and eleven days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert “Bob” Hoagland, a sister Ruth (Standerford) Miner, and four brothers: Arthur, August, Donald, and Lillis Schultz.
