Dorothea Lovina (Alberts) Kuhlmann was born July 10, 1925 to Henry and Clara (Tuxhorn) Alberts in Table Rock, Nebraska.  She was the oldest of four children.  Dorothea was baptized Aug. 2, 1925 by Rev. F. Geyer and confirmed Feb. 11, 1940 by Rev. Herbert Brokering at St. James Lutheran Church. She attended rural school at North West Star District 10 in Richardson County.  She started working at a young age helping others with housework. At 18 she began working at the Humboldt Hospital.  After 2 years, she went to work at the Holman Hospital where she spent 3 years.

On Aug. 19, 1947, she was married to Arnold Kuhlmann at St. James by Rev. H. Bents.  To this union three children were born: Rodney, Debra and Kevin.  They lived on a farm for 10 years and in 1958 they moved to Humboldt.  Arnold and Dorothea operated the Humboldt Greenhouse during the 60’s and 70’s.  Dorothea especially loved doing wedding flowers.  She also worked in the doctor’s office for 32 years until she retired at age 65.  Then she started cleaning house for others and had many good memories of those she worked for.

When Arnold and Dorothea moved to Humboldt they joined Faith Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Altar Guild and was treasurer of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for many years.  Dorothea enjoyed baking, canning, embroidery, quilting, dancing and playing cards.  She and Arnold especially loved traveling to Branson, Missouri with friends.

Arnold passed away in March of 2009 and in July, Dorothea moved to an apartment in Auburn and made many new friends. When she moved to Auburn, she transferred her church membership to Trinity Lutheran Church.  Dorothea passed away at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh on December 30, 2017 at the age of 92 years.
