Denretta "Denni" Lou (Joy) Nolte

March 30, 1935 ~ March 12, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old


Denretta “Denni” Lou (Joy) Nolte, 81, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on March 30, 1935, in Kingman, Kansas to Denton L. and Lelia (Long) Joy.  She grew up in Wichita, Kansas and Ottumwa, Iowa before attending school at Rollins Elementary in Kansas City, Missouri.  Denni attended Shawnee Mission High School in Mission, Kansas graduating with the class of 1953.  She then continued her education by attending Kansas State University where she received her teaching degree and was a member of Delta Delta Delta.

On December 27, 1957, Denni was united in marriage to Burdell Nolte at The Christian Church in Mission, Kansas.  To this union three daughters, Cheryl Joy, Mari Kyle, and Staci Leigh were born.  The couple began their lives together living in Kansas City, Missouri where Denni taught school kindergarten and 1st grade in Leawood, Kansas.  They moved to St. Louis, Missouri and later to Humboldt, Nebraska where Denni taught 2nd through 4th grade for a number of years.  She later substituted all grade levels for the Humboldt schools and Challenge Class for several years.  Denni was a member of Humboldt Eastern Star Chapter #234, P.E.O. Chapter DI serving on the state board as chairman of continuing education, member of the First Presbyterian Church, and member of the “Red Hat Club.” She was very involved with the Bruun memorial library serving on the board and on the Library Trustee Board.  Denni loved playing cards.  She was an avid Bridge player and also enjoyed playing cards in her many various card clubs.  But most importantly, Denni loved her family.  She truly enjoyed spending time with all of her children and grandchildren.

Denni passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Sabetha Hospital in Sabetha, Kansas having reached the age of eighty-one years, eleven months, and ten days.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Patricia Gunn, and brothers-in-law Gene Nolte and Warren Closson.

Denni is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Burdell Nolte of Humboldt, NE; daughters: Cheryl Dreher and her husband Allen of Hiawatha, KS; Mari Cooney and her husband John of Houston, TX; Staci Ramsey of Humboldt, NE; grandchildren: Travis Dreher of Hiawatha, KS; Taylor Rodecap of Ozawkie, KS; Meagan Cooney of Houston, TX; Caitlyn Cooney of Houston, TX; Whitney Ramsey of Humboldt, NE; Wyatt Ramsey of Humboldt, NE; great-grandchildren: Remington and Adalynn Rodecap of Ozawkie, KS; sisters-in-law: Vicky Nolte of Surprise, AZ; Irene Classen of Sabetha, KS; brother-in-law Jerry Nolte and his wife Dorothy of Humboldt, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Eric Biehl officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Humboldt Bruun Memorial Library Fund.
