Christina Hindera Obituary

Christina A. Hindera, 81, of St. Mary, passed away at BryanEast Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sunday, January 28, 2018.  

Christina A. (Christen) Hindera was the second oldest of four children born to Ernest and Amelia (Wenzl) Christen on June 4, 1936 in rural Pawnee City, NE.  She graduated from Pawnee City High School.  After high school Chris worked for the County Assessor’s office in Pawnee City.  From Pawnee City, Chris attended Central Technical Institute in Kansas City for flight attendant school.  After six weeks Chris and a good friend moved to Omaha and started working at Mutual of Omaha. 

  Chris was united in marriage to Anthony B. Hindera on November 12, 1957 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Steinauer.  To this union three daughters were born.   

  Chris worked closely with Randy Field as a bookkeeper at Field-Ford garage working with the Ford dealership in Tecumseh for 40 years.  In 1975 Tony and Chris purchased Tom and Gertie Goracke’s store and opened for business May 1, 1975.  They operated Hindera’s Store until 1993. Tony passed away February 5, 2011.

Chris was a member of the American Legion Post #2 Auxiliary, St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Altar Society.  In her spare time she loved spending time with her special friends, her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mahoney State Park was a top priority on Chris’s list to do with her family every year.  Chris was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She passed away on January 28, 2018 at the age of 81 years. 

   She is survived by her daughters, Genevieve Lempka and husband Jim of St. Mary, Evelyn Jacobsen and husband Jay and June Weyers and husband Dan of Waverly, 6 grandchildren, Asa Lempka and wife Jenna, Avery Lempka, Ashley Allen and husband Clint, Lacey Hoffman and husband Eric, Sydney Weyers and special friend Kerry, and Anthony Weyers, great grandchildren, Jayley Allen and Blake Hoffman, step-grandchildren, Constance Krull and husband Kelly and Scott Weyers and wife Kellie, 6 step-great grandchildren, sister, Millie Puchalla and husband Roy of Waverly and Clara Bernadt and husband John of Crete, sisters-in-law, Donna Hindera and Chris Monteleone, many nieces and nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.

   Chris was preceded in death by her husband Tony, parents Ernest and Amelia Christen, brother Lawrence and nephews James and David Christen.

Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Thomas Dunavan officiating.

Visitation will be held at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh Nebraska, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to the family with later designation to Mahoney State Park.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary, Nebraska.
