Boyd served his country in the United States Army from his induction July 15, 1959 to his honorable discharge July 7, 1961.  He was in Hanau, Frankfort, Germany as a Specialist 4 surveyor.  After his military service, Boyd began work for the Nebraska Department of Roads in Fremont.  He was a Survey Party Chief and retired from the Department of Roads in 1996.  After his retirement, Boyd returned to Tecumseh.    When his health declined Boyd became a resident of Gold Crest Retirement in Adams, Nebraska and passed away there December 13, 2017 at the age of 81 years.
