 Arnold Thomas Horn, 82, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Tecumseh, NE, passed away on August 10, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living Facility in McPherson.  Arnie was born to Thomas and Jean (Hamilton) Horn on April 8, 1934 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.  He graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1952 and then attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD where he met Mary Beth Gillett.  Arnie served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1958.  Arnie and Mary Beth were wed on December 23, 1954 in Tecumseh, NE and eventually settled there after his time in the Air Force.  Arnie worked for the Post Office until he retired as Post Master in 1990.  Arnie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh and served in many areas, including choir director, Deacon, and Trustee.  He loved singing in the choir and providing music in the community with Mary Beth at the piano.

Arnie was beloved for his generosity, kindness, and humor and was always busy in his yard or in the community.  He was especially passionate about youth baseball.  In the 1970’s, he saw the need for more practice fields and sought donations through the county and city and volunteers to construct the baseball fields at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.  He coached the Red Sox Little League, and girls’ softball team.  He also volunteered at the Recycling Center, served on the Library Board, the City Council, and helped his neighbors and friends and spent his free time woodworking, landscaping and volunteering in the community.  In 1977, he was awarded the AKSARBEN Good Neighbor Award.  This award recognizes people in Nebraska who perform unselfish acts of kindness and who go above and beyond deeds or services throughout their Nebraska community.

Arnie and Mary Beth enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States and Arnie had the opportunity to travel to Egypt in 2009 and Italy in 2011. 

In October, 2013, Arnie moved to McPherson, KS to be near family and resided at Brookdale Senior Living Facility.  He is survived by his brother, Harry Horn and wife Marilyn of Rock Springs, WY, daughter Julie Feurer and husband Bob of North Bend, NE, daughter Jeanne Whitenack and husband Brett of McPherson, KS, son Alan Horn and wife Bonnie of Olathe, KS, son Tim Horn of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren, Erin Feurer, Wichita, KS, Cade Feurer and wife Courtney, North Bend, NE, Jake Whitenack and wife Sarah, McPherson, KS, Bethany Whitenack, McPherson, KS, Andrea Horn, Olathe, KS, Kelsey Horn, Manhattan, KS, Seth Horn, Olathe, KS, Adam Horn, Lincoln, NE, Kyle Horn, Lincoln, NE, great-grandchildren Curtis Landrum and Cali Whitenack of McPherson, KS, Bram Thomas Feurer of North Bend, NE, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Beth Horn.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.   Visitation will be held on Friday August 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Tecumseh or the Tecumseh Ball Association in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson, KS or Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, NE.
