Wayne Dene Skillett, 79 of Humboldt, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at his home in Humboldt, Nebraska. He was born on January 19, 1933 to Dennie and Nola (Milburn) Skillett in Table Rock, Nebraska.

He graduated from East Moline High School in 1950. He married Carol Elaine Nicholson on March 19, 1954 in Moline, Illinois. To this union three children were born.

Wayne worked as a painter his entire career, living in Moline, Illinois, Lincoln, Nebraska and then moving to Humboldt, Nebraska in 2005. Wayne was a former Mason. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Wayne enjoyed fishing when he was younger, sitting on the porch with a cold beer, traveling and camping with family, his fish, birds and dogs. Wayne loved to sit on the bar stool and shoot the bull with friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Dennie and Nola Skillett, stepmother, Lucille Skillett and son-in-law, Roland Overton.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Skillett of Humboldt, NE, daughter, Debra Overton of Lincoln, NE, sons and spouses, Curt and Kim Skillett of Carter Lake, IA, Denny and Cherryl Skillett of Humboldt, NE, grandchildren, Tonya, Tia, Barry, Dallas, Drue, Wayne, Jamie, and Kaylin, great grandchildren, Trey, River, Tavin and Braxton, sister, Nadine Doss of Moline, IL, brother Gerald “Dick” Skillett and wife Linda of Silvis, IL, nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services 1 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha, Humboldt, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Ken Tubbesing. Visitation one hour before service. Burial at a later date. Memorials to family choice.
