David J. Boukal, 92, of Falls City formerly of Humboldt, Nebraska, was born on September 15, 1919, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Jerome and Minnie (Stalder) Boukal. At a young age, David’s family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. They returned to Humboldt and Dave continued his schooling in Humboldt and later graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1938. While in high school, Dave participated in football, basketball and baseball. He was a member of a Humboldt basketball team that qualified for the State Basketball Tournament. After graduation, Dave worked at the Kotouc Clothing Store in Humboldt. On October 27, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II until being honorably discharged on November 11, 1945. While in service, he was in the Signal Corps in the 14th Armored Division and later joined up with General Patton’s advancing army. On May 28, 1947, Dave was united in marriage to WillaDean Hall in Humboldt, Nebraska. To this union a daughter Linda was born. The couple lived in Humboldt, Nebraska where Dave worked for Frank Rist. He later farmed himself raising hogs and livestock while also working at the Humboldt Sale Barn as a hog and cattle buyer. Dave played baseball for the Humboldt town team in the 50’s and always enjoyed sports. He loved to watch all sports on TV and go to football games. Dave and his grandson played many games of baseball and basketball when David was growing up. Dave was a faithful member of the Christian Church where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Men’s CMF. Later in life he became a resident of the Falls City Care Center in Falls City, Nebraska. Dave died at the Falls City Care Center in Falls City, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, having reached the age of ninety-two years, ten months, and sixteen days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife WillaDean.
Dave is survived by his daughter Linda Meyer of Falls City, NE; grandson David Meyer of Atchison, KS; a brother Louis Boukal and wife Jean of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Daryl Hall and wife Doris of Lakewood, CO; 2 nieces; 5 nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Howard Blecha officiating.
Visitation will be from 12-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Harvey-Mann Legion Post# 269 and the Nebraska Army Honor Guard.
