Russell Allen Roesener

Russell A. Roesener, 45, of Cook, passed away July 26, 2012 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born to Richard and Joyce (Kettelhut) Roesener on June 10, 1967. He was baptized July 2, 1967 by Rev. Robert A. Herrboldt and confirmed June 7, 1981 by Pastor Larry F. Lepper at Grace Lutheran Church in Cook. Russell grew up in Cook and attended Nemaha Valley Schools graduating with the Class of 1985. He went to basic training in 1985 in Fort Knox, Kentucky where he attained rank of Sergeant and was a member of the 3rd squadron 302nd Calvary Troop B. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1985 to his honorable discharge on Feb. 1, 1994. He was a member of the Army Reserve Unit in Syracuse. Russell graduated from Southeast Community College in June 1989 with an Associate’s Degree in Auto Mechanics.

He was united in marriage to Devon Rae Thompson at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cook on October 16, 1993. To this union one son, Tyllar Jaedon was born on January 1, 2000. He worked for Wiebke Harvesting, Roesener Enterprises, Johnson County Department of Roads, Cook Transfer, D & A Construction and as a truck driver for Concrete Industries in Nebraska City. Russell was a member of Cook Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post #360 of Cook and served as a church council member for Grace Lutheran, Cook. In his spare time, Russell loved helping his friends and having a cold one with his buddies.

Russell is survived by his loving wife, Devon of Cook, son Tyllar Roesener of Cook, parents, Richard and Joyce Roesener of Cook, sister, Roxane Schiebur and husband Chris of Adams and their children, Joslyn and Macy of Adams, parents-in-law, Arthur and Cecelia Thompson of Cook, brother-in-law, Chris Thompson and wife Dawn of Talmage and their children, Hunter, Shyanne, Shaun, Shayla and Sharley, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Ray and Frieda Roesener and maternal grandparents Walter and Dorothy Kettelhut.

Funeral services will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cook, Nebraska, at 2:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon, July 28, 2012 with Rev. Jim Helgren officiating. Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, July 27, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Interment will be in the Helena Cemetery, west of Cook, Nebraska with full military rites by Bickel-Nelson American Legion Post #360 of Cook and the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team.
